An imidazolidinone derivative represented by general formula (1) and having a cholinergic activity (a muscarine M1 activity) and a pharmacologically acceptable acid-addition salt thereof, both being useful for treating senile dementia, wherein R represents optionally halogenated lower alkyl, etc.; R<1> and R<2> may be the same or different and each represents hydrogen or lower alkyl; R<3> represents R<4>-(CH2)q-, R<4>-(CH2)q-C(=O)- or R<5>-C=CCH2- (wherein R<4> represents optionally halogenated lower alkyl, etc., q represents 0 to 3, and R<5> represents hydrogen, etc.); m and n represent each 0 to 3; p represents 1 to 3; and X represents oxygen or sulfur.
