The internal combustion engine with cylinder shifted backwards has as its object to increase the torque and power of the engine by increasing the angle ss of pivoting of the connecting rod for a given crankshaft angle alpha , without changing the coefficient lambda . The invention consists in the operation of the cylinder-piston assembly with a new axis M.N. shifted backwards and to the left with respect to the direction of rotation of the engine which rotates to the right. This shifting of the axis M.N. will cause the values of angle ss of pivoting of the connecting rod to increase during the explosion phase. The result of increasing the angle ss is to increase the force FT which will in turn cause an increase in the torque and power of the engine according to the relationships (Fourier series): FT = FG x Sin( alpha + beta ) DIVIDED Cosss M = FT x r P = M x W where: M = torque P = power W = angular velocity <IMAGE>
