A rotary cutting drill (3) is described comprising a shank (2) for gripping the drill (3) in a high speed rotary device (8). The shank (2) is divided into two or more segments (6) which lie axially of the drill shank (2) and which segments can move radially of the shank axis. The invention also extends to a drilling spindle (8) having an axial hole (7) with an annular groove (9) fitted with an "O" ring (10) for receiving a rotary cutting tool, e.g. a drill (3) as described.
