Disclosed is a technology for a sensor network, machine to machine (M2M) communication, machine type communication (MTC) and the Internet of Things (IoT). The present disclosure can be utilized for intelligent services (smart home, smart building, smart city, smart car or connected car, healthcare, digital education, retail business, security, and safety-related services, and the like) based on the technology. A system for controlling a peripheral device, according to one embodiment of the present invention, comprises: an electronic device for transmitting ID information; at least one peripheral device for receiving the ID information; and a server for receiving, from the peripheral device, the ID information and state information of the peripheral device, and transmitting, to the electronic device, a user interface corresponding to the peripheral device on the basis of the ID information and the state information of the peripheral device, wherein the electronic device receives a user input, in a state in which the user interface is provided, and transmits, to the server, data for controlling the peripheral device in correspondence to the user input, and the server can control the peripheral device on the basis of the data. |
