The device for compacting plastic receptacles of the invention includes, successively over the path of a plastic receptacle (2), a guide channel (3) and mechanical means for compressing the plastic receptacle (2). The mechanical compression means are brought to a temperature sufficient to render the plastic receptacle (2) malleable so that the latter is flattened through the combined effects of crushing and heating between the mechanical compression means. In a particular variant embodiment, the compression means consist of four successive compression systems (21, 22, 23, 24), each consisting of a pressure cylinder (21a, 22a, 23a, 24a) and of a horizontal counterpressure plate (25, 26). The plastic receptacle is displaced inside the compacting device, at the surface (25a, 26a) of the counterpressure plates, being entrained in translation by the pressure cylinders (21a, 22a, 23a, 24a) in rotation. Application: production of independent and delocalised collection installations including a container equipped with a compacting device of the invention and permitting flattening and then unitary cutting-up of the plastic receptacles as they are introduced into the container. <IMAGE>
