The equipment consists of an upright column (3) mounted on a support base (1), with a pivotable arm (4) controlled by an intermediate jack (6) to move relative to the column about a horizontal axis. The free end of the arm has a connector for a patient support hanger (5). The jack is mounted between a point on the column and a point on the arm on the other side of the pivot axis relative to the patient hanger. The column is inclined relative to the base by an obtuse angle (a) on the side closest to the patient hanger, defining a volume (E) free of structure in which the patient may be handled.
