The mechanism has a drive shaft (12) which rotates inside a fixed bearing (14) and on one extremity (24) of which is fixed the first part (28) of the drive head (30). This has a pivot (32) with an axis (Y-Y) arranged perpendicular to the rotational axis (X-X) of the drive shaft. A second part (34) of the drive head is affixed to the first. This carries the hinge axis for the wiper arm and a mechanism for oscillating the second part. This mechanism comprises a cam (52) and/or a cam follower (50) which is fixed in rotation with the second part of the drive head.
