The rotary electric machine, e.g. alternator (10) includes a rotor (12) and a stator (18). The stator comprises an annular cylindrical skirt and two radial end plates (24) traversed by the rotor shaft (16). This defines the enclosure (13) within which the rotor is mounted. A second box (28) partially surrounds the stator (18,20) in order to define a peripheral annular cooling chamber (32). The envelope (20) of the stator (18) is formed in one piece by folding a single sheet of material.
