A cultivator is designed for row crops, e.g. maize, sugar-beet, broad beans or the like. At least one sensor (10) detecting the positions of the individual plants (1) in the row and a tilling device (13) controlled by the signal from the sensor (10) are allocated to each row. The sensor (10) is fitted near the ground and directed substantially horizontally and transversely to the line of the row. In adition, the sensor (10) has at least one associated blower (17) from which compressed air can be blown away from the sensor (10) into its detection region. The cultivator has a tilling device (12) having a substantially horizontally guided chopping blade (14) engaging flatly in the ground between the individual plants (1) in the row (5). |
