The invention relates to medicine and can be used as a rapid means of measuring the degree of vitamin deficiency in a subject. In essence the method involves determining vitamin deficiency on the basis of the results obtained from measuring a subject's adaptation to darkness by showing the subject various test-systems under varying lighting conditions. The device for carrying out the proposed process comprises a translucent chamber, a lamp, interchangeable test disks and a power supply unit; the device is in the form of a truncated cone or pyramid and is open on two sides, the lamp being mounted in such a way that it can turn, while the test-disks are mounted in such a way that they can rotate and the chamber walls are provided with air ducts. The proposed method is highly accurate, its findings matching biochemical measurements of the concentration of vitamins in biological fluids, and can be used for a rapid and cost-effective measurement of vitamin deficiency.
