METHOD OF FEEDING A REGION WITH A LOCAL ACCUMULATION OF MATERIAL IN A CASTING

In a method of feeding a region with a local material accumulation (M) in a casting, in which the material accumulation (M) comprises a part (6) of the casting having a relatively large and substantially constant cross section, said part (6) extending towards an external surface (2) of the mould and being terminated by a surface (7) being substantially parallel to said external surface (2) of the mould, the novel steps are: a) that the region of the mould cavity corresponding to said part (6) towards the external surface (2) of the mould while maintaining a constant cross section is increased by a volume at least corresponding to the metal volume requisite for the post-feeding of the material accumulation (M) including said part (6); b) that said region of the mould cavity is at least partly surrounded by a heat-insulating material (8); and c) that during at least a part of the solidification of the casting a pressure is exerted from outside on the surface (7) of said part (6) mainly parallel to the external surface (2) of the mould.
