PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide methods and systems for optimizing a power plant.SOLUTION: A combined cycle power plant system 12 includes: a gas turbine operably connected to a heat recovery steam generator; and a controller 22 for optimizing a shutdown operation. A first controller is configured to execute the steps of: receiving the shutdown initiating command; receiving operating parameters measured by sensors; determining a current state for each of components; and deriving an optimized shutdown operating mode for transitioning the components from the current state to a shutdown state. A second controller is configured to transform the optimized shutdown operating mode into commands configured to actuate mechanical control devices of the components.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
