A channel section containing the air bag mechanism, is secured to the body structure (3) at the edges of an aperture in the body structure. The aperture is closed by a flap (5) onto which is bonded the trim (1) with an intermediate layer of foam, with a weak link (14). When the bag inflates, the weak section breaks, allowing the bag to expand into the passenger compartment.
