An improvement in a fishing reel of the type having a spool for storing a supply of fishing line and structure for wrapping the fishing line onto the spool to effect retrieval of paid out fishing line. The improvement is settable structure on the fishing reel for giving a user a visual indication of which of a plurality of different types of fishing line is on the spool.
