PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and apparatus for a credit card and debit card transaction terminal including a processor, a display and a memory.SOLUTION: A card reader 102 is configured to read data stored on a portable memory medium 104. An operator interface is generated by a program, executable by a processor, and displayable on a display 106. A customer interface is generated by a program, executable by a processor 110, and displayable in a customer language. A language identification module is stored in a memory 116 and executable on the processor. The language identification module 122 is configured to select the operator language and to select the customer language which can be displayed for the operator and the customer, respectively. The operator and customer languages are selected from a plurality of languages stored in the module.
