The tail lamp is fitted in an opening (2) in the body work at the rear of the motor vehicle. The tail lamp has several lamp chambers (3,4) in a single unit. A translucent cover (5) closes the chambers. The back of the lamp has a hinged plate (6) of a plastic material. The plate can be detached from the lamp chambers. The back plate carries the sockets (9,10) for the light bulbs (7,8), and also the electrical conductors linking the connectors to the sockets. The lamp chambers have openings (12,13) in the back to allow the lamp bulbs to pass through from behind. One of the openings (12) is enlarged to allow tilting of the plate and bulb assembly for fitting and removal. An internal screen (14) closes the space in the enlarged opening when the assembly is in place.
