A foundation pile which has profiling provided at one end, in order to promote the joining of the pile to a structure which is to be supported or anchored, has a change in the cross section at the location of a peripheral part, as seen in the longitudinal direction of the foundation pile, which is substantially of the same magnitude as an opposite change in the cross section at the location of another peripheral part which, in the said longitudinal direction, lies at the same level, in such a manner that the surface area of the cross section of the foundation pile is constant in its longitudinal direction.
