Unsaturated phenylacetic acid derivatives of the general formula in which U is =O=CH-OCH3, =N-OCH3, -N-NH-CH3, =CH2, =CH-CH3, =CH-CH2-CH3 or =CH-S-CH3 and Z<1> and Z<2> are hydrogen, halogen, trifluoromethyl, cyanide, NO2 or the optionally substituted radicals alkyl, alkenyl, aryl, alkynyl, alkoxy, aryloxy, arylalkoxy, acyloxy, hetaryl, -CO2R<1>, -CONR<2>R<3>, COR<4> or NR<5>R<6>, it also being possible for Z<1> and Z<2> to form a ring, A is in the meta- or para-position and represents (CH2)n, CH=CH, O-(CH2)n, O-(CH2)n-CO, CH2-O-CO-(CH2)n, CO-O-(CH2)n, O-CO-(CH2)n, O-(CH2)n-CO-O, O-(CH2)n+2-O, CH2-O-(CH2)n, CH2-S-(CH2)n, CH2-NR<7>-(CH2)n, CH(CN)-O-CO-(CH2)n, CH=N-(CH2)n or CH=N-O-(CH2)n, n embraces the numbers 0 to 20, B is optionally substituted and can denote hydrogen, alkyl, cycloalkyl, aryl or hetaryl, R<1> to R<7> are hydrogen or the optionally substituted radicals alkyl, cycloalkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, aryl, hetaryl, aralyl or cycloalkylalkyl and the acid addition products and base addition products thereof, and fungicides and insecticides containing these compounds.
