A method for the measurement of slack between a screw (8) and nut (9) comprises: (i) the nut is brought to rest against a mechanical stopper; (ii) the screw is turned in a first direction to move the nut in the length direction of the screw in order to the press the nut against the stopper (14, 15); (iii) a pre-determined force is applied against the nut to keep it pressed against the stopper; (iv) the screw is turned in the opposite direction to the first one; (v) the turning force required is measured via the force being applied against the nut; and (vi) the amt. of screw turning required to remove slack corresponds to how much the screw has been turned in the second direction when the turning force is detected. The device for carrying out this measurement method is also claimed, a retainer being used to keep the nut pressed against the stopper. |
