VALVE ASSEMBLY FOR A PROSTHETIC LIMB

A prosthetic limb comprises a socket (12) for receiving a patient's residual limb, and an upright assembly (14). The socket (12) includes a base provided in its distal end. The base (16) includes a chamber (20) therewithin and a channel (22) for providing fluid communication between the chamber (20) and the interior of the socket (12). A duct extends through the socket (12) and engages the base (16) such that it is in fluid communication with the chamber (20). A valve (58) is coupled to the duct to allow controlled or forced gas transfer to and from the interior of the socket (12). A seal is provided between the base (16) and the socket (12) to facilitate suction between the patient's residual limb and the socket (12).
