The communication device capable of performing a voice conversion and sound conversion transmission of characters is provided with: a voice communication unit (1) outputting a transmission control signal of a dialing number upon a voice communication using a general telephone function, and outputting an ending signal, if the communication is terminated, thereby performing the general communication; a character transmitting unit (6) inputting the voice control signal from the voice communication unit (1) to support an performance of the voice communication, and controlling a character transmission and the sound and voice transmission of characters according to a character input by a user; a sound coupling unit (3) inputting character information output from the character transmitting unit (6) to convert it to the sound signal of an analog signal and outputting it, and converting the sound signal from the other party to character data to transmit it to the character transmitter (6); a voice converter (4) inputting character information output from the character transmitter (6) to convert it to the voice signal and outputting it; a transceiver (2) bidirectionally transmitting the voice of the user, character input data, a voice coding signal from the voice converter (4) and the voice coding signal from the voice coupling unit (3); and a telephone line matching unit (5) matching the transceiver (2) to the telephone line.
