Apparatus for determining the distance of a golfer's shot comprised of apparatus for measuring increments of distance along and parallel to terrain from a start position, apparatus for determining a deviation of the terrain from a line between the start position and an end position, apparatus for calculating components of plural increments of the distance which are parallel to the line from the deviation from the line, for adding serial plural ones of the components together to obtain a length of the line between the start position and end position, and for providing a resulting distance signal for a display.
