A fitting assembly (1) joins two furniture elements (11,12) along a common plane (10). Each fitting consists of two components (2,3,3',3"). The first fitting component (2) is secured to the surface of the first furniture element (11). The second fitting component (3,3',3") is countersunk within a groove (13) in the second furniture element. The first fitting component (2) incorporates a hollow recess (20). The second fitting component has a profiled section. The outer contour of the profiled section (30) and the inner contour of the hollow recess are matched such that one may be centred and pushed inside the other. One of the fittings incorporates a bolt with thread (37) which by turning either pulls the components together or pushes them apart.
