The handling device (20) is used for moving around e.g. sheets of corrugated iron for constructing a roof on a building. It is designed to engage downturned edges of the corrugated sheets and consists of a rod or tube (35) with a hook (30) near one end (41). The hook consists of a straight lug (51) welded to the side of the tube and extending out at right-angles to the axis of the tube. The end (52) of the lug is bent over to form a hook (49) with a width just greater than the thickness of the edge (96) of the piece of corrugated iron.
