Apparatus for disinfecting water by ultra-violet (UV-C) light, comprising: (a) an elongated tube of quartz glass (4), surrounded by a number of UV-C sources (11) in air, through which water flows; (b) if no water is flowing through the apparatus the UV light cannot escape; (c) incoming water impinges upon a rotating disc and is scattered at random around the inside walls of the quartz tube; (d) the rate of water flow is adjustable; (e) the inner face of the UV light chamber (1) is made of a highly reflective material; (f) the UV light emitters (11) can be inspected through an inspection lens (14).
