Orbiting motion spiral compressor

The spiral compressor (10) has two interlocking pieces of metal (12,14), one of which is fixed inside the housing and the other may perform an orbital motion without rotating. It is moved by an eccentric pin (46) at the end of a rotating shaft (44). The axial position of the moving rotor may be controlled by a bleed (92) with an entrance chamber (94) on the top edge of the innermost turn of the spiral. The rate of flow of gas through this bleed depends on the distance of the top edge of the moving spiral from the support for the fixed spiral and controls the pressure in the chamber (68) under the moving spiral.
