Fuel pump drive esp. for common rail fuel injection system for IC engine

The device has an idler (3) connecting the fuel pump (2) to the crankshaft (7) in addition to the connection between the fuel pump and an electrical drive element (1) which drives the pump. The pump can be driven faster than a minimum crankshaft revs. rate. The drive element can be the engine (13) starter motor. The crankshaft is connected via a transfer element (5,6,8,9) to a second idler (4) which is connected to the fuel pump via further transfer elements (10,11), so that the crankshaft defines a minimum fuel pump speed corresp. to its own speed, w.r.t. which the pump can be driven at a higher speed.
