The egg cup especially for soft boiled eggs has a horizontal cutting slot (4) extending to the middle of the cup. The upper wall of the cup can have a reinforcing bulge (2). Opposed finger grips (5) can extend across the slot. The egg is placed in the egg cup and a table knife is forced horizontally through it to open it. the cut off top of the egg can then be removed.
