The protective clothing is transported between the cleaning and maintenance location and the working location in a closed chamber. The chamber is mounted on wheels or rollers. The clothing has no special packaging, the conditions inside the chamber being set to avoid contamination of the protective clothing in transit. The chamber has internal space (1) for the hanging of the protective clothing and a second space for an air conditioning unit (8-12) which maintains a controlled atmosphere at a pressure greater than the external atmospheric pressure. An autonomous energy source, for example a battery, is installed with the air conditioning unit to power the unit.
