The device for cutting vanilla slices with a width (d) comprises a tray (12) for receiving the cake (2). There are two plates (6), one of which is movable relative to the tray between remote and close positions from the other plate. In the remote position the movable plate is located at a distance from the other plate greater than the cake width. In the close position it is located at a distance from the other plate slightly less than the cake width. Cams (5) enable displacement of the plates between these two positions. The plates have regularly spaced cuts (40), corresponding to the widths of the portions to be cut, located opposite one of the plate sides. These cuts extend from the plate upper edge as far as the top of the tray upper face. These cuts have a width such that the knife blade can be engaged and slid through them.
