PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer in which the ink jet function can be promoted while preventing the ink from being dried at the time of nonprinting. SOLUTION: A print mechanism 10 having an ink jet type print head 12, and a moving amount detection mechanism 20 having a timing roller 21 are encased in a bodycase 2. The printer further comprises a cap member 31 to be applied tightly to the head plane of the print head 12, a cap drive mechanism 30 for switching the cap member 31 between a cap position and a retracting position, and a mechanism 40 for sucking the jet nozzle plane of the print head 12. At the time of printing operation where the body case 2 is moved in the printing direction, the jet nozzle is sucked to the suction mechanism 40 and then the cap member 31 is shifted to the retracting position by means of the cap drive mechanism 30. |
