This invention provides a recombinant fowlpox virus comprising a foreign DNA sequence inserted into the fowlpox virus genomic DNA, wherein the foreign DNA sequence is inserted within a non-essential region of the fowlpox virus genomic DNA and is capable of being expressed in a fowlpox virus infected host cell. The invention further provides homology vectors, vaccines and methods of immunization.
