To clean yarn faults at a bobbin winding station, the length of the faulty yarn section is registered between the time of fault detection and the time the yarn is cut. The time is registered by a sensor, from the rotation of the winding roller and the movement of the winding bobbin into the unwinding direction for the entry of the yarn into the positioned suction tube, and the entry of the yarn length into the suction tube. The unwinding action is stopped when the determined yarn length has been drawn into the suction tube. When the leading end of the yarn has been laid in the splicer, the remaining wound yarn, taken up since the fault developed, remains outside the splicer for cutting.
