Disclosed is a method to prevent flickering of an OSD or a digitron when a high-fidelity tape is replayed in a video tape recorder/replayer. In the method, the replayed tape is determined whether in an auto tracking mode or not. If the replayed tape is in an auto tracking mode, a high-fidelity/normal detector(2) is controlled to select a normal voice mode during auto-tracking. If the auto-tracking is completed, the high-fidelity/normal detector(2) is controlled to select a high-fidelity voice mode. Thereby, the flickering can be prevented according to the function of high-fidelity/normal detector(2).
