MUTANT STRAIN OF PHAFFIA RHODOZYMA AND PRODUCTION OF ÑÔ-CARITENE

New microorganism, Phaffia rhodozyma YA-15 (KCTC8602) is obtained by mutation treatment of astaxanthin-producing Phaffia rhodozyma ATCC 66272. More than 50micro g/g dry cell of beta-carotene can be accumulated by blocking astaxanthin biosynthesis. This microorganism which is cultured in YM medium at 22deg.C for 5 days is separated and treated with cell wall hydrolyzing enzyme from Trichoderma reesei. and spray-dried. Yeast culture is used for the fish feedstuff componant.
