The present invention pertains to a method for manufacturing substrates with transparent and colour coatings stable at high temperatures and in the presence of ultraviolet rays, characterized in that they cover a substrate made of a compound containing A), as a matrix component, at least one element which can form a glassy, crystalline or partially crystalline oxyde, resembles a compound capable of producing said oxyde if submitted to a heat treatment, and is located, at least partially, in a substantially aqueous medium, and B), as a chromophoric component, at least one member of the group of metal or metal compound or metal alloy colloids, as well as the metal compounds capable of forming metal colloids under reducing conditions, and which causes the coatings obtained on that way to be thermoset, thereby forming the coated substrate. The appropriate substrates are inter alia the glassy substrates, so that the inventive method is particularly suited for coating halogen lamp bulbs and gas-filled tubes.
