The parallel grooves are of T-shaped cross-section with the foot of each T opening to the outside on an otherwise flat horizontal plate (1). The plate may be circular in plan view, and the inverted T-section grooves are parallel to each other and equispaced from one another. The grooved plate acts as a machine bed and sits on a centering plate (2). There is a bearing device (16) on a spindle (11) in the centre and there is a carrier ring (7) which is approximately one half the diameter of the machine bedplate. There are several spindles (5) inside the carrier ring which help to level the bedplate. The assembly stands on a thick baseplate (8).
