The insulating body (1) is typically made in porcelain and is formed of two hollow, cylindrical parts (1A, 1B) which are sealed at the outer ends. It has a fixed contact (3) with an external terminal (5) that closes off one end and is conical in shape towards the interior of the body. It has a moving contact (4) which is connected to a second external terminal (6). The two parts (1A, 1B) hold the dividing wall (7) in place by means of a flange (2) between them. The dividing wall is a corrugated metal or an elastomer membrane and is attached to an extension rod (4A) on the moving contact. The cut-off chamber contains sulphur VI fluoride while the other part is filled with nitrogen.
