FIELD: recovery of radioactive ion-exchange resins by burning them to produce product suitable for long-time storage. SUBSTANCE: process involves heating resins to high temperature. To this end, resins are mixed up with powdered metal-containing fuel and oxidizer. Mixture obtained is introduced in tank which is then filled with layer of combustible compound and closed with cover communicating with gas-cleaning system. Combustible compound is ignited. Powdered metal-containing fuel is, essentially, mixture of powdered Al-Mg alloy alkali metal nitrate, and calcium-silicon alloy doped with industrial oil. Combustible compound is powdered low-gas contact-heating compound or mixture of aluminum powder, KClO<SB>3</SB>, and BaO<SB>2</SB>. EFFECT: facilitated procedure, reduced time, and improved safety. 3 clo
