FIELD: general mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: seal includes members engaged in mutual coaxial rotation relative to one another and separated by gap to be sealed; this gap is made in form of alternating twin circular projections and recesses whose edges form labyrinth slots through which sealing gas is passed. Front surfaces of circular projections of revolving members have straight (not-narrowing in their cross section) bevelled serrated notches. Contours of these notches form blades of axial-flow or centrifugal compressors to ensure optimal compression or expansion of gas in seal.
