RUBBER COMPOSITION FOR TIRE TREAD AND TIRE PRODUCED BY USING THE SAME

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a rubber compsn. which has an enhanced abrasion resistance and can exhibit scratching effects and from which silica sand is prevented from falling off by compounding a rubber with a specified amt. of surface- treated silica sand having a specified average particle size. SOLUTION: Silica sand 10 which has an average particle size of 100-1,000μm and of which, after the first residue silica sand passing through 16 mesh screen but remaining on a 30 mesh screen is pressed under a plane pressure of 255 kgf/cm<2> for 1 min, the wt. of the second residue silica sand remaining on a 30-mesh screen is at least 65 wt.% of the first residue is subjected to surface treatment with a resorcin-formaldehyde/latex to form a coating layer 12 in such a wt. ratio of the solid content of the latex 11 to silica sand 10 as to satisfy the formula: (100/X)+0.2<=Y<=(600/X)+3.0 [wherein X is the average particle size (nm) of silica sand; and Y is the ratio (G2/G1) of the wt. (G2) of the solid content of the latex adhering to silica sand to the wt. (G1) of silica sand]. Thus treated silica sand in an amt. of 5-50 phr is compounded into a rubber substrate 13 to give the objective rubber compsn.
