<p>A method is provided for the implementation of a fair queuing ATM cell scheduler that can precisely pace virtual channel (VC) traffic by an assigned weight which defines the available bandwidth to be allocated to that VC. The method comprises a method of operating a cell scheduler for performing asynchronous time mode transfer of virtual channel cells, the scheduler including first and second queue locations, the method comprising assigning a weight to a virtual channel queued at the first queue location, transmitting a plurality of cells of the virtual channel, moving the virtual channel from the first queue location to the second queue location, and switching the said first queue location to become said second queue location and vice versa and can provide a minimum service rate to each virtual channel on a small, selected time scale, and requires only a small, bounded amount of work per physical connection, independent of the number of Vcs. <IMAGE></p> |
