Bending and prestressing of glass sheets

During sudden full area cooling of the heated and bent glass sheet by means of blow box nozzles, the boundary regions of the sheet lying on a shaping ring (1) are additionally cooled by compressed air - which is delivered in a controlled manner via holes (4) in the shaping ring - at pressures higher than the surrounding pressure in the blow boxes. The claimed shaping ring is provided at least over a part of its periphery with a distributer channel which is connectable to a gas line operating at elevated or reduced pressures. The holes in the distributer channel lead to the seating surface for the glass sheet on the shaping ring.
