Automatic detection method by QAM-receiver for QAM-mode transmitted signal

A method for automatic recognition on the reception-side of a received QAM (quadrature amplitude modulation) signal transmitted according to the QAM-mode (16-,64-,256-QAM;32-,128- QAM), in which the received signal is demodulated by obtaining symbol values I-SYM and Q-SYM of different value/weighting. The value/weighting of the symbol values I-SYM and Q-SYM is ascertained, and the symbol values I-SYM and Q-SYM are added up according to their value/weighting to obtain a statistical distribution of the maxima as an indicator of the transmitted QAM-mode.
