<p>A fibrous composite material composed of a yarn assembly (6) comprising yarns (2A, 2B) containing at least carbon fiber bundles (3) and carbonaceous components other than carbon fibers, the yarns (2A, 2B) being three-dimensionally combined and integrated so as not to cause mutual separation, and a matrix comprising Si-SiC-base materials (4A, 4B, 5A, 5B) filled between adjacent yarns in the yarn assembly. The composite material is produced by forming a plastic film around each carbon fiber bundle containing powdery carbon, forming the same into yarns followed by molding, and impregnating silicon into the open cells of the product of molding at high temperature. This material is excellent in impact resistance, can be used in a strongly oxidizing corrosive environment, has a light weight and a high strength, and is endowed with a self-restorability for being healed of defects.</p> |
