Beach or dune sand erosion prevention method

The surface of a sand beach or dune (10) to be protected against erosion is covered by a one-piece or multi- sectional mat (15) of plastics foam with large open pores. The mat is placed on the sand in front of the dune on the sea side, and on a partially eroded sandy beach. A lower layer (14) of sand is placed on a pebbly or rocky ground (13), and another layer (16) of sand is placed on top of the mat. Seeds, etc. are placed in the open pores. The foam is UV-resistant, and the mat has a thickness of 5-10 cm, preferably 8 cm.
