The short-circuit device (1) has a gas generator used for direct drive of a short-circuit piston and is provided by a sandwich structure with current rails and at least one thin insulation foil, penetrated by the release of the short-circuit piston, for providing a short-circuit between the current rails. An Independent claim is included for application of the short-circuit device for a protection device.
