PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject novel compound that is useful as a synthetic intermediate of a compound that is useful as an antiviral agent. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I (X is a halogen), typically a compound of formula II, is prepared by reaction of guanine, its salt or its hydrate with a compound of formula III (R<1> and R<2> are each H, methyl, ethyl, an aromatic group; R<3> is a single bond, a 1-5C alkylene; R<4> is H, a 1-5C alkyl, an aromatic group) in the presence of a halogenating agent to form a compound of formula IV, which is hydrolyzed, or the compound of formula IV is formed under an weak acidic condition previously set to effect the hydrolysis of the product of formula IV. |
