FIELD: hardware and mechanical engineering; manufacture of cold-drawn rod steel and its mechanical treatment by cutting or cold stamping. SUBSTANCE: specimens of drawn rods are subjected to plastic deformation by upsetting. Strength characteristic (hardness) of metal is determined on longitudinal axis of upset specimens for areas where they come in contact with punches. Steel strengthening is checked up by comparing curves showing hardness as function of upsetting for various degrees of reduction. EFFECT: facilitated procedure, improved informative capacity, reliability and precision of check-up, enlarged functional capabilities. 2 dwg
