The pump (1) has a sealing device (25) including a U-section sealing ring (29). One sealing sector (31), formed by one arm of the U, is pressed against the drive shaft (11), while the other sealing sector (33) formed by the other arm of the U is pressed against a sealing surface round the drive shaft. The base of the U forms another sealing region (35) facing the interior of the pump, with the other sealing regions directed away from the interior of the pump.
